Ventilator - A Hilarious Journey Through Family Emotions
Written and directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, Ventilator is a 2016 comedy-drama that tells the story of the Kamerkar family. The film is about the eldest and most beloved member who goes into a coma and is put on a medical ventilator a few days before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations.
Mapuskar’s film is inspired by the true events of his life when one of his family members was hospitalized and put on a ventilator. The script resembles the reaction of his family members, trying to treat the difficult situation with humor. On its completion, he approached several producers, who were skeptical and tried to discourage him from making it in Marathi.
Produced by Priyanka Chopra under her production company Purple Pebble Pictures. The film was released on November 4, 2016, in Maharashtra and several other cities in India. Ventilator is now available to stream on ZEE5.
Ventilator Movie Plot- The Reality of Life with a Twist of Humour
Every year, the Kamerkar family has a heartwarming tradition of gathering in their ancestral village to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. However, this time, just a few days before the festive cheer, a beloved family figure, Gajanan Karmerkar, fondly known as Gajju Kaka, falls into a coma and is placed on life support in a Mumbai hospital.
Raja Kamerkar, a prominent Bollywood director and Gajju Kaka's nephew, receives the distressing news during a movie screening featuring Priyanka Chopra. The news prompts him to rush to the hospital. Gajju Kaka has always been a pillar of support for Raja, especially during challenging times with his father.
As Raja heads to the hospital, he informs the rest of the family, causing a mix of worry for Gajju Kaka's health and concern about the upcoming festivities. The family, along with neighbors, gather at the hospital, hoping and praying for Gajju Kaka's recovery. Amid the anxiety, Raja finds himself observing the family's reactions and attitudes, finding both solace and amusement amid the chaos.
Prasanna, Gajanan's son, struggles with a strained relationship with his father. He's deeply engrossed in his political pursuits and a competition to impress his boss. Meanwhile, Pritam, Prasanna's cousin from the village, is on his way to the hospital with other relatives.
The family learns about Gajju Kaka's reliance on a ventilator, and Prasanna decides to keep him on life support until the following afternoon. Raja, who has had his share of differences with his father, encourages Prasanna to visit Gajanan and make amends.
The family from the village arrives, bringing in a breath of fresh air. Lata, Raja's cousin from the United States, shares a touching family tree drawing, sparking emotional conversations within the family. Prasanna, moved by the moment, opens up about his feelings, revealing his insecurities and past grievances. However, he soon realizes the depth of his father's love and rushes back to keep Gajanan on life support.
This revelation leads to heartfelt reunions and embraces within the family. Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Gajanan, still on life support, is seen smiling—a symbol of peace and resolution within the family, bringing a sense of unity and hope during this challenging time.
